When people talk about China, the first cities that come to mind are Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. So when they hear Jinjiang, eyes travel up the roof thinking. Or fingers quickly run to the keypads Googling.
I had the luxury of getting an invite from the Jinjiang City and the Fujian Provincial Government to join a media delegation from Davao City and other parts of Mindanao for a familiarization tour to explore the city and help promote it to Davaoeñeos.
According to Mr. Huang Yiming, the president of Your Tour International Travel Agency Co., Ltd., with the bilateral agreement of both cities, the Filipino-Chinese counterpart has been fruitful. Chinese visitors to Davao and Cebu increased to 50% this year compared to last year.
Mr. Huang admits that there are only a few tourists from Davao City who visited Jinjiang which prompted them to generate more interest for Davaoeños to explore Jinjiang and other key cities in Fujian province.
Jinjiang, is the Top 10 most developed county-level city in China for 18 consecutive years with over 16,000 enterprises, 7 industrial clusters that exceeds RMB 10 billion, 42 China well-knowm trademarks, 130 national brands and 46 listed companies.
It is located in the southeastern side of Fujian Province known as the Capital of Chinese Brands. This is were its magical transformation began with the help of all its people willing to share their talents and skills to the world.
Davaoeñeos are lucky enough to have Jinjiang as its sister-city since the bilateral agreement was signed last November 15, 2018. Opportunities came to our doors knocking when Xiamen Airlines launched direct flights from Davao to Jinjiang in December 2018.

A blend of history and culture
One thing I learned when I travel to Asian countries is the richness of their culture and history. That’s how I also prepared myself when I am about to travel for the very first time to Hanoi, Vietnam.
Hanoi is the second largest city in Vietnam but travelers spend most of their time in Old Hanoi. This is where you get to feel and see the remnants of the French ruling age with their old churches, opera houses, and even French colonial buildings. It is a blend of Asian and European influence with a strong traditional Vietnamese that makes it enticing.
I was very lucky when I get to join the Manila-Hanoi inaugural flight of the flag-carrier Philippine Airlines. I was privileged with a comfortable Business Class seat together with the executives on board.

Are you a one-time traveler or are you a fond returnee?
It was in 2017 when I first traveled with my cousins and a friend. The first country in mind was of course--Thailand. We were so excited that we prepared for a couple of months for our trip. I was the one who handled our itinerary while the others looked for our hotel accommodation and other necessities.
Researching about the must-visit places and must-try food choices in Bangkok, Thailand was really fun and educating. It's what keeps me psyched and ready since I am the lead navigator of the group as we travel our way to this Asian country we always hear about in travel stories and television dramas.
We were all amazed when we finally saw how simple life is in this country. It is not as complicated as how other countries are and we actually feel as if we are home.
But what's with this country that really makes me want to come back for more?
